Prosecutors General of Belarus and Azerbaijan Aleksandr Konyuk and Zakir Garalov discussed issues of bilateral cooperation in criminal law in Minsk

The Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Konyuk held a working meeting with the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan Zakir Garalov, who arrived in Minsk as part of an official delegation headed by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. 

During the bilateral meeting prosecutors discussed issues of international legal cooperation in criminal matters, exchanged experiences on countering crime and corruption, and oversight in the economic sphere. 

Today Aleksandr Konyuk and Zakir Garalov signed an Agreement on cooperation between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Belarus and the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The international agreement regulates the interaction of supervisory agencies in ensuring the protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens; the fight against crime, including such organized and transnational forms as terrorism, extremism, corruption, illicit trafficking in weapons, narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and human trafficking. The Agreement provides an exchange of experience and regulatory legal acts. 

“The visit of the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan will facilitate strengthen professional relations between the prosecutors of both countries, will give new impact to the joint fight against crime and corruption, help us to protect the rights and lawful interests of citizens,” said Aleksandr Konyuk. 

“International crime that does not recognize borders and jurisdictions can only be stopped through joint efforts. To do this, we need to meet periodically and coordinate our actions” stated Zakir Garalov.
