Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Konyuk took part in a meeting of Interstate Council for Countering Corruption

A regular meeting of the Interstate Council for Countering Corruption took place in the city of Kazan (Republic of Tatarstan, Russian Federation). Apart from the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Konyuk the following persons participated in the event: the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Chaika, President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia Artur Davtyan, Head of the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Civil Service Affairs and Anti-Corruption Kayrat Kozhamzharov, Deputy Head of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States Konysbek Zhusupbekov, other leaders and representatives of prosecution bodies and specialized agencies for the fight against corruption of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan.

In his welcoming speech the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus noted that the work in the Council is of mutual interest for its participants, it promotes the development of uniform approaches to combating corruption because half-hearted measures against it put state apparatus under threat, foster growth of shadow economy, constitute a real menace to the fundamentals of statehood, rule of law, economic progress and moral principles of the society.

Aleksandr Konyuk informed the Council about the system of measures developed in the Republic of Belarus on combating corruption at all managerial levels and sectors of economic activity, which presents a key priority of the policy of the Belarusian state. He also stressed commitment to a consistent development of interaction, further consolidation of efforts of all states and international organizations in the fight against crime and corruption, including its transnational form.

During the meeting of the Council the outcomes of realization of its previous decisions were considered, the new Chair (Yuri Chaika) and Co-Chairs (Kayrat Kozhamzharov and Artur Davtyan) were elected basing on the rotation principle.

The Council approved the Draft Agreement on Cooperation of the Member-States of the Commonwealth of Independent States in Combating Corruption, familiarized itself with the progress of negotiating of the same-title Convention intended for the development of common standards in the region.

The participants of the Council gave their voices for the continuation of cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, nominated a new Secretariat of the Council, and approved a working plan for 2018 which provides that the next meeting is planned to take place in the Republic of Armenia. 

The decisions adopted by the Council will promote interaction of its participants, development of the legal framework with the view of improving organisational and practical measures in the field of combatting corruption.
